Strung-out on hip-hop since the impressionable age of twelve, Rob soon got into graffiti, pause-button mix tapes, rapping and searching for obscure records. In 1992, he encouraged his mate Balans to pick up the mic, and they started the crew which came to be known as The Formulators. By '94 they had their first demo played on DJ Krisy's "Steppin' To The AM", Melbourne's leading hip hop radio show, which soon led to meeting up with RFK, a group of emcee's, deejays and writers which included Trem, Brad Strut, Raise, DJ Idem and Skribble Studios' Andrew Gauld. After a few years of open mic and radio appearences - as well as working on tracks with Idem and later Jase and Prowla - Rob and Balans joined forces with Trem and Brad Strut to form the Lyrical Commission. Known for his on-stage antics and classic one-liners, Nausea is also regarded as "the rap encyclopedia" due to his near-obsessive, extensive knowledge of hip-hop history, trivia and anecdotes. After studying copywriting and design, Rob started Unkut Productions in 1997, with the aim to produce both music and a magazine (which has since evolved into an on-line project). This lead the creation of Unkut Recordings with Trem, as a means to release the crew's music without any outside interference. It wasn't until 2001 that Rob finally released his long-delayed debut 12" (which he co-produced with Jase and Prowla), featuring the drinking anthem "A Night On The Tiles", the sombre tale of "The Conversation" and the straight-up brag rap of "Full Potential". The vinyl went on to sell over 400 copies and later appeared on a UK compilation called "The Burning Issue". The single also included "Retribution", an instrumental track featuring DJ J-Red, as well as a battle tools section for deejays. Some other tracks that Rob has co-produced over the years include Trem's "Amateurs (Unkut Remix)", Brad Strut's "Demolition Derby" and Lyrical Commission's "Press Release" and "Sex Fiend". Robbie currently runs two websites - A Tribute To Ignorance [unkut.com], which features interviews and articles focusing on forgotten and under-exposed hip-hop artists from the past and present, and Steady Bootleggin'[steadybootleggin.blogspot.com], which is an audio blog specializing in white labels and remixes. He is also continuing his production work, currently developing a remix album under his new alias Rob Nausea.
